Recreation Options — Farragut State Park

It seemed the most popular recreation in the park was swimming at Beaver Beach.

We visited early in the morning to avoid the crowd. This is such a nice little bay, perfect for swimming. No boats allowed.

This is the lake side and it drops off very quickly to deep water.

This restroom/shower is available to change in or shower after.

This is the lower parking lot and there is an upper lot too.

Remember this trailhead, we started here on one of our hikes.

This structure was built as part of a Boyscout's Jambouree the was held here. Over 40,000 boys camped here.

If you have a little extra time check it out.

Farragut State Park has a large frisbee golf facility. I have talked with players in other parts of the state that have been to events here.

There is a good sized parking lot.

This map shows some of the trails available to hike. Terri and I hiked most of them. The maps run by guiding you from one intersection to another where the intersections are numbered not the trails.

This hike is from Beaver Bay to the viewpoint above Buttonhook Bay.

After hiking along the lake you come out into the open with Buttonhook Bay ahead.

After passing the docks a Buttonhook Bay take the smaller trail on the left to go to the viewpoint.

When you reach a point across the bay from the docks you'll see a split in the trail. Turn right into the shadows. But don't worry the trail ahead ends just in a few yards so you can't get to lost.

This is part of the climb to the viewpoints.

The view from the first viewpoint of Buttonhook Bay is the best in my opinion. However I recommend going on to the second because there are some cool historical markers.

We did the 1 mile hike starting at Sunrise Day Use Area. We started here and took a left down to the main trail then left again onto the main trail and followed the trail all the way out to the viewpoint on the main body of the lake. It's an easy hike but some of it will be in full sun so plan for that.

Watch for these information signs along the way.

Such an amazing view for a person who is use to desert.

This trail leads back up to Willow Bay day use area and then on to the parking lot you parked at.

The trails marked in red are the Squirrel Cache Trail. We made a much bigger loop and returned on Squirrel Cache trail. We hiked late in the day when it was cool and a little dusty toward the end.

There is a small but great museum called the "Brig" that I recommend you checkout if you enjoy history.

We were surprised to find an excellent field for radio controlled planes. this field is home to the Farragut Flyers.
