Campsites
There are only 3 camping sites. One is down along the river with a steel stairway leading down to its picnic table and the beach. Your RV parks on the edge of the road. The second site is up the hill where you park on the edge of a small parking lot and walk 50 or so feet to your picnic table under a big tree. The last site is near the equine facilities but is separate from the loading ramp, feed bunks, and hitching rails for your horses.
Water
No potable water.
Restroom
There was one vault style outhouse in Race Creek Campground, and they were replacing another one at the rafters access as we were reviewing the campground. In fact, we had to leave early or be blocked in for a while.

Rafting is the boating done here. To float the Selway in this area, you must have a permit which is issued through a lottery. Check out this link to the forest service for information on the lottery.

Recreation
With the Selway - Bitterroot Wilderness Area at hand and the Selway River running past the campground, there are many recreational opportunities available. There are several trails for hiking, backpacking and horseback riding. If you find Race Creek Campground full or not to your taste, use Selway Falls Campground. There is a large and highly used rafting facility which you drive through to get to Race Creek Campground, and of course there is fishing. The Selway River is beautiful and would be worth hiking further in for the opportunity to practice your photography or watch for wildlife.
Wildlife
Race Creek Campground is at the end of the road with the Selway Bitterroot Wilderness Area, so one could see most any big game animal. Whitetail deer, elk, moose and black bear are fairly common here. There are bear warning signs posted so use care with your garbage and food storage.

Race Creek Campground is small, only having 3 sites. What it is missing in size it makes up for in recreational opportunities and beauty. It is situated at the end of Selway Road on the Selway River where Race Creek joins the river. The Selway - Bitterroot Wilderness Area begins only a mile or two up the Selway River. The mountains are covered with pristine forest and no roads beyond the campground. If you are looking for a beautiful unpopulated area, check this out.
