We found 3 campsites but there is room for primitive camping opportunities. One site only had a fire ring while two others had one or two picnic tables. The two with tables are in a grassy meadow along the river while the other one is under the trees next to the trail.

Camping, hiking, photography, horseback riding and rock climbing. The nearby mountains provide the primary recreation through hiking, backpacking and horseback riding. One could also mountain bike into some rugged country from here.

Deer, elk, bear, wolves, mountain goat and lion all live near here.

Federal Gulch Campground is located along the East Fork of the Big Wood River about 4 miles from the 10,563 ft. Gray's Peak in the Pioneer Mountains. Sun Valley and Ketchum, Idaho, are only fifteen miles or so to the northwest. Federal Gulch Trail #169 leads from here past Gray's Peak and to points beyond. If you follow the road past Federal Gulch Campground, it takes you toward Sunshine and Mascot Mines.

Getting There
From Ketchum, Idaho, take Hwy 75 south 5.7 miles to a left turn onto the East Fork Wood River Rd. As you follow the East Fork Wood River Rd, it becomes the East Fork Rd and is very narrow. Federal Gulch Campground is 11.5 miles and on your right side.
