Campsites
Buffalo Campground has 127 campsites divided into 7 loops. 49 campsites are reserveable and loop E may be reserved for your group of up to 150 persons also. The roads and driveways are paved except for loop D driveways which are gravel. Most sites have a picnic table and a fire pit with an attached grate. Check out our pictures as each loop is different. C loop has power for each site.
Water
Buffalo Campground has a very nice water system, the water being clear and cool.
Restroom
There are several vault style outhouses. Some have flushing toilets and lavs with running water but no showers.
Electricity
Only in loop C.
Firewood
Firewood is available from the camp host. It was $6 per bundle in 2012.
Pets
Pets are welcome but must be on a leash.
Picnic Area
None.
Handicap Access
The outhouses are handicap accessible and the roads are paved.
RV Dump Site
We found an RV dump station at Mac's Inn, follow this Google Map.
Host On-Site
Yes, several.
Phone Service
Pay phones are available in multiple locations along Highway 20. Our ATT cell phones worked at Buffalo Campground.
Garbage Services
There is garbage service available. Please use it to avoid troubles with bear.
Fishing
Fishing is world class in nearby Henry's Fork. Check the regulations for restrictions and limits.
Boating
No boating, but people wade, raft and kayak the Buffalo River. Boating is available on Island Park Reservoir and Henry's Lake which are only a short ride away.
Swimming
There is no swimming area but many people use the river to keep cool.
Recreation
Nearby activities and sights include fishing on Island Park Reservoir, Henry's Lake and Henry's Fork of the Snake River. Check out Upper Mesa Falls (110ft) and Lower Mesa Falls (85ft) and Harriman State Park where wildlife provides it's own show. Don't forget Yellowstone National Park is only 26 miles to the northeast. Terri and I enjoyed relaxing in camp, wading and fishing in the Buffalo River, and walking around the campground and along the river. The opportunities for a photographer are abundant, beautiful country full of wildlife.
Wildlife
Moose, deer, black and grizzly bear as well as smaller forest animals are the most common wildlife. Use caution if you spot moose or bear as they can be dangerous.
Fee Schedule
As of April 2017 double sites are $30 ($35 with electricity), Singles are $15 ($20 with electricity) and your extra vehicle another $6 per day. Loop E is $160 per day.

I highly recommend you reserve a campsite for your stay as Buffalo Campground gets very busy. Reservations may be made at recreation.gov.

Buffalo Campground is set on the banks of the Buffalo River and is covered with a mature lodgepole pine forest. It is mostly level and offers a great spot to relax and have access to the many recreational activities eastern Idaho has to offer. Terri and I liked it well enough that we came back for our last 3 days of vacation after visiting 20 other campgrounds.
